Over the years we have been exposed to a latino community that shows pride in their native language while also showing a great love for futsal and soccer. As much as we believe in the pride shown in maintaining the language sometimes the first exposure to the English language is when that child goes to school for the first time. We plan to bring a greater comfort in using the English language through providing a structured program based around team-teaching that will focus on continued communication while learning to play soccer/futsal.
Westchester Futsal will be putting together a structured ESOL Immersion Futsal Program where a bilingual coach will work with children in an environment that makes them comfortable. Even though the language that will be used throughout the sessions is English that coach can allow for the student to rely their native language for explaining and elaborating on key skills and concepts and receive a response in English.
The goal of this program is to:
1. To use English to communicate in a social setting
2. To use English to achieve confidence and certainty in following direction
3. To use English in socially and culturally appropriate ways
